Several events have enlivened the cultural scene in 2018, which bears witness to the vitality of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, in all the spheres of creation. It is impossible to all meet, but here are a few of them, just for the pleasure of recall. The people who were not able to attend can console themselves by saying that 2019 seems as abundant.
If The world of Tintin, has drawn thousands of visitors to The Pulperie de Chicoutimi, it is important to mention the exposure Datasets: Light: Chicoutimi Paolo Almario, which is discussed elsewhere in these pages (see page 19). Just take a look at the Centre, Bang, dive into the heart of his approach, to understand what has prompted the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec to remit to him the price for the designer of the year in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

A RECORD OF THE PROGRESS, GIMMY DESBIENS
The art of travel more than ever, as evidenced by the artists of the group’s origin AMV, Mathieu Valade, Julien Boily and Cindy Dumais. Their last output, to which other designers were involved, led them to Berlin. A collective exhibition proposed by the gallery, rosalux has presented works of their own, while its director, Tiny Domingos, made a stopover at the gallery, The Work of the Other, of Chicoutimi, in November.
The performance of the most impressive, however, is that of Lyzane Potvin. She took advantage of a stay at home with her parents, at Alma, to create a huge painting, which has resulted in Higher level Language, the time of an exhibition which was also attended by Rober Racine. Called The abyss, it is his most ambitious work, a crazy project performed outside, sometimes under the snow.
Four feature films
In the cinema, the feature film from Sébastien pilote, The disappearance of the fireflies, has shown the Saguenay in a different light, while throwing a light, sometimes sweet, sometimes raw, a teenager disillusioned. Another developer here, François Girard, has created the historical epic Hochelaga, while Samuel Thivierge presented Identities in the spring.

In parallel, several projects of short are in the works, including three that have meshed directors to composers of the region, under the auspices of the band Sonimage, and the Centre of musical experimentation. Lastly, the honor that has been conferred to Jean-Marc E. Roy and Philippe David Gagné when their feature film paying tribute to the filmmaker Marc-André Forcier, made up stories, was screened during the opening night of the Festival of cinema of Quebec City.
In music, moreover, several events have made an impression, starting by the concert of the chamber orchestra les Violons du Roy gave the 16 December, at the cathedral of Chicoutimi. The performance of the other guest brand, the coloratura soprano Marie-Eve Munger, will remain engraved in the memories. Note also the concert that was attended by the Choir, the Amadeus and the Choir of Quebec. At Arvida, and then to Quebec, they have done honor to a work of English Karl Jenkins, The armed Man, a forceful advocacy of pacifism.
The community of Mashteuiatsh has also had the nice visit, while the Montreal symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Kent Nagano, presented a concert centered on the legend of Tshakapesh. Importantly, this project resulted from a close collaboration with aboriginal artists, including Florent Vollant, who was responsible for the narration in innu’s language.
The opera Faust, he has explored other themes in the course of the performances at the Théâtre National Bank of Chicoutimi, under the aegis of the Société d’art lyrique du Royaume. The sinister Mephistopheles was embodied with vigor by Gino Quilico, while France Bellemare has camped a Margarita moving. There was the last directed by Guylaine Rivard for the company. It is Rodrigue Villeneuve who planchera on the next production, La Traviata.
City of Alma events has also had the good fortune to host the contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux in march, at the Salle Michel-Côté. A month earlier, it was the turn of violinist Alexandre Da Costa, to point. In each case, it is necessary to see the culmination of the efforts by the initiators of the stream Concerto, dedicated since long time to the classical music.
Turning to the literature, finally, impossible to omit the remarkable trial of Mustapha Fahmi published by The Tribe, a philosophical reflection on The lesson of Rosalinde. This was also a great year for Frédérick Lavoie, who has published two books in 2018. The first, Before the after, received the Governor general’s Award. Then came out a book for four hands, Brothers friends, brothers, enemies, fruit of a correspondence with his brother Jasmine. It was based in Pakistan, while the elder lived in India.
